About Tony Blau, MD

Concentrating on patient-centered cancer care, Tony Blau, MD, teaches medical students at the University of Washington’s (UW) Division of Hematology and Department of Genome Sciences. Dr. Blau maintains a membership with the Transfusion Committee for the UW Medical Center, and he previously sat on the Scientific Advisory Board for the General Clinical Research Center at the school. Dr. Tony Blau has earned considerable recognition for his high level of dedication and talent in genetics and cancer research. Most recently, Dr. Blau received the Medical Staff Teamwork Leadership and Caring Award from the UW Medical Center, and he was presented with the Outstanding Alumnus Award from the Department of Modern Languages at Wright State University in 2006.

Dr. Tony Blau attended Wright State University, graduating summa cum laude with his Bachelor’s degree. He went on to enroll at Ohio State University to pursue a Master’s degree, completing it in 1986. Dr. Blau also participated in postgraduate training, first as a Senior Fellow for the UW Division of Oncology, then as a resident and intern at the Duke University Department of Medicine. Dr. Tony Blau has held several faculty positions over the course of his career and has taught in several capacities at the UW Cancer Consortium and Department of Medicine.

Part of Dr. Tony Blau’s professional duties includes working two months out of each year with patients at the Hematology Consultation Service. He also serves with an oncology inpatient service for two to four weeks every year. All of his clinical teaching responsibilities for the year, including as part of a hematology small group class, occur during these periods of service.
